  1. In this Appendix:
    1. • “SW” refers to the Skilled Worker route

    3. • “GTR” refers to the Global Business Mobility – Graduate Trainee route
    4. • “SCU” refers to the Scale-up route

Nothing in this Appendix exempts an applicant from being paid the National Minimum Wage or the National Living Wage, where these apply.

The Home Office appendix skilled occupation list updates regularly and therefore you must click on the link to check the updated occupation list.

What are SOC Codes?

Employers seeking to sponsor individuals under various visa routes must ensure that the role meets specific visa requirements, such as being at the required skilled level and offering the relevant minimum salary.

To assist the Home Office in determining if a role meets these requirements, eligible jobs are listed by occupation code in Appendix Skilled Occupations. Only occupations listed on this appendix qualify for certain sponsored work routes.

The list of eligible occupations is updated regularly, so sponsors and visa applicants are encouraged to consult the latest version when preparing their sponsorship and visa applications. Occupation codes are used to determine salary thresholds for each job, categorizing them as either ‘new entrant’ or ‘experienced’, and provide example job titles related to each specific code.

Where are the SOC codes sourced from?

Each qualifying position is assigned a unique four-digit Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code. Effective April 4, 2024, SOC codes are now sourced from the Standard Occupational Classification 2020 coding index, replacing the 2010 codes.

You can verify SOC 2020 occupation codes through the Skilled Occupations Appendix or the CASCOT occupation coding tool.

It is essential to note that SOC codes and eligible job roles may differ between the previous 2010 system and the current 2020 system. Therefore, sponsors are encouraged to review the SOC 2020 occupation codes for their sponsored roles when submitting an application to ensure ongoing eligibility and accurate usage of the most up-to-date code.
